red carpet winners

After watching the Oscar's on Sunday, the hubs and I have a huge, long list of movies that we need to see. Up first will be The Descendents, followed by The Artist, Midnight in Paris, and Hugo. Anybody see these movies? Which ones did you like? We are always looking for good movies to watch together---they make for the best kind of dates! And a bottle of wine, of course :) Movies also keep me from going out and spending all our hard-earned cash.....now that I think about it, that is probably the reason that my husband is always suggesting movie nights. Hmmmm....he is a sneaky one.

bow tie fiesta

I probably never would have put this bow tie shirt and this skirt that reminds me of a Mexican fiesta together if I hadn't gotten dressed in the dark this morning. But it actually turned out kind of cute I think! Sometimes putting weird patterns together totally works :)
So I made a pact with myself this month that I would not buy any new items of clothing for the whole month of February**. This was spurred on by my credit card statement......I couldn't believe how many clothing purchases I was making each month!! Very unneccessary purchases at that. But I am happy to say that I am 2 days away*** from meeting my goal!
**please disregard the fact that I chose the shortest month of the year for this pact.
***if you see a bunch of new items on my blog in the next week or two, its because I went on a major shopping spree to reward myself---don't worry, if I buy a bunch of clothes all at once, it only shows up on my credit card statement once.

the ballerina bun

My new favorite hairstyle? The ballerina bun. It does a great job hiding the fact that I was too lazy to get up early and take a shower....plus it doubles as a pen holder. I know, I am a great multi-tasker :)

gone campin'

For President's Day weekend, the hubby and I took a little road trip north for some camping. A lot of it was spent sightseeing and experimenting with our new camera. At night, we made a campfire and had coffee and s'mores while starring up at the stars. It was so refreshing to get out of the city and go somewhere beautiful, just the two of us.
And I gotta say, it was nice to finally be the one behind the camera instead of in front of it :)

colors of the rainbow

So clearly I couldn't decide on a color scheme for today's outfit---a little green, a little orangey-red, a dash of yellow....I also can't decide what to talk about today. I'm actually preoccupied with the little trip up north my husband and I are taking tomorrow--camping on the beach. We are just excited to get out of the city and into some fresh air for a few days. I will hopefully get some good pictures to share with you all--but no judging my camping outfits.....when you can't shower for a few days and smell like campfire smoke and salt water, cute outfits are the last thing on your mind.

inspirational: joyce

Since it was the day of LOVE yesterday, I thought it would be appropriate to do a post on someone's outfit that I love. I have been wanting to work a vest into an outfit for a little while now but it never seemed to be quite right. Then I saw what Joyce did over at Joyful Outfits and got more inspired. My version of Joyce's outfit is very different colors but similar style and pieces:

A rose colored skirt just screamed "Valentine's Day" to me.
I also wore it because it was PINK + RED day over at Everybody, Everywhere.

This might be bold to say but I think that yesterday was the best V-Day I have ever had :) Probably had something to do with the amazing dinner I made for the hubs and I--chicken wrapped in bacon, seasoned, rolled in brown sugar and baked, with a side of asparagus sateed in butter and seasoned with garlic salt. And the dessert that I made was TO DIE FOR! It was a raspberry brownie parfait made with a mascarpone whipped cream. Pinterest......I love you.

the balloon skirt

I call this my balloon skirt for two reasons: 1) the pattern looks like a bunch of purple balloons and 2) because when it is windy (which it was when photos were being taken), it "balloons" up, causing an inappropriate amount of skin to be shown to all the strangers walking by. Good thing I was wearing my granny panties so nothing could be seen :)
Talk about a great start to a great Monday!

a little Anthro :)

Thanks to my wonderful mother-in-love and grandmother-in-love, I finally have a little Anthro in my wardrobe collection :) LOVE their clothes but most of the time, it is just too rich for my blood. Though I do find myself perusing the Anthro sale section every time I muster up the self-control to enter the store.
I mostly prefer what Kendi refers to as "fauxthropologie," aka pieces that look exactly like something sold at Anthro that you buy at another, less expensive store and feel less guilty about.
Which brings me to the wonderful night ahead of me consisting of dining with the hubby and then dragging him into a few clothing stores just to "browse." Don't worry, he loves it!

going pro

I feel so professional in this blazer! I know blazers can be totally casual but I still always feel so grown up when I wear one. And since I spend most of my days doing office work in between taking care of sick kids, making mac and cheese for children who have no lunch, and cleaning up after kindergarteners who #2-ed in their pants, I need all the help I can get feeling like a grown up :)
